No. There is no blood test or physical exam or procedure that can indicate if a person has PMDD.
- What types of doctors diagnose PMDD?
From what we've seen, only psychiatrists and gynecologists are willing to diagnose women with PMDD.
- What kinds of treatment options are available for PMDD?
In a nutshell, the following options are available (and their effectiveness is dependent upon each individual.. what works for one woman will not always work for another)
(see this list for more details):
- Antidepressants or other psychopharmaceuticals (mood stabilizers, anxiety medication, etc.)
- Hormone therapy (birth control, GnRH-a's, etc.)
- Diet and/or herbal supplements
- Psychotherapy
- Alternative therapies such as light therapy and yoga
- but only a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy or menopause (either surgical or chemical) can cure it
